Gauging patient satisfaction in a competitive market
Is Your Business Healthy?

Everyone knows the importance of regular check ups to safeguard their health and assess how well things are going.

The same idea is true for businesses. It is important to check the pulse of patient satisfaction and the overall health of your business. Patient satisfaction surveys are one way to accomplish this goal.

Surveys are important for your business

When designed and conducted properly they can generate a wealth of information about patient perception regarding:

patient/staff interaction;
convenience of office hours; and
ease of office procedures.

How should the survey be designed?

Patient satisfaction surveys should require no more than 15 minutes to complete. Questions should be concise and in a user friendly format. Respondents may be asked to rate their opinions on a scale of 1 to 5 or by circling words such as excellent, good, fair or poor.

There should be an area at the bottom of the survey for respondents to write comments or questions. In order to get a large response, a letter should be attached to the survey with a brief explanation of the purpose of the survey.

Surveys may be distributed on-line, via mail or during a visit to the office. The information obtained may be used to refine policies and procedures, develop business plans, and set performance targets.

Good surveys are good medicine

Having a pulse on the needs and satisfaction of the patients in your practice is the shot in the arm to ensure your organization's good health. This is your prescription to:

provide better service;
improve patient satisfaction; and
increase revenue.

Remember, winning medical practices regularly keep in touch with their patient's changing preferences and needs. The competitive edge gained through constant attention to patient satisfaction and regular patient satisfaction surveys is invaluable. Patient satisfaction translates into patient loyalty.

Ask the Recruiter
"How important is running a background check on every new hire?"

Every employer has a reasonable duty of care in whom they hire. By engaging in a background check, an employer demonstrates that it has taken reasonable steps to insure that a prospective candidate is safe.

By breaching that duty of care, an employer runs the risk of negligent hiring and causes an undue risk of harm to other employees.

Best rule of thumb: Don't rely on "gut instincts"; instead, demonstrate Due Diligence in performing thorough background checks.
